The new Middlesex County office in New Brunswick, New Jersey marks a return for Keefe Law Firm back to the Middlesex County seat on a number of levels. Several of the firm’s partners, Of-Counsel, and associates have strong roots in the county and surrounding towns.
The Keefe family has maintained roots in New Brunswick since the late 1800s. The parents of Judge John Keefe, now Of-Counsel to the firm, grew up in New Brunswick. The Judge and his wife were brought up in the 6th Ward and attended St. Peter The Apostle High School. The Judge graduated from Rutgers University and went on to graduate from Rutgers Law School. After law school, Judge Keefe began a remarkable career in law as a civil trial attorney, culminating in a twenty five year stint as a Superior Court judge. He retired from the judiciary in 2001 as a presiding Judge of the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court.
John E. Keefe, Jr., managing member of Keefe Law Firm and son of Judge John Keefe has also been rooted in New Brunswick for most of his life and career. After graduating from Gettysburg College and Seton Hall University School of Law, Mr. Keefe went on to become an associate attorney at Wilentz, Goldman, and Spitzer law firm in Woodbridge, New Jersey. In 1995, Mr. Keefe became a partner in the law firm, Lynch Martin, and is now a founding member and co-managing member of the New Jersey personal injury law firm of Keefe Law Firm with offices in Red Bank, Newark, and now New Brunswick. John E. Keefe, Jr.’s legal career includes the appointment by the Superior Court as plaintiffs’ liaison counsel in the national class action, Talalai v. Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. which resulted in a settlement valued between $1 billion and $3 billion. Mr. Keefe is also currently lead counsel in Janes v. Ciba Geigy Corporation which is a class action lawsuit on behalf of New Jersey property owners which is now one of the largest pollutions cases in the state. While class actions and consumer fraud cases have made up a substantial portion of Mr. Keefe’s legal practice, he has also represented a number of seriously injured victims on the local New Jersey level including a Middlesex County detective that was killed in a car accident while off duty.
Additionally, Keefe Law Firm Associate Stephen T. Sullivan, Jr. resides in the New Brunswick area and is very active in the local community. Although Stephen grew up in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, he has grown strong roots in Middlesex County. After graduating from Villanova University School of Law, Mr. Sullivan began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Marina Corodemus, J.S.C. Since that time, he has regularly appeared in the Superior Court, Middlesex County and represented many residents of Middlesex County. Moreover, after marrying his wife, Tammy nee Simons, he moved to Milltown, New Jersey in 1997. He currently serves as President of the Our Lady of Lourdes School’s School Advisory Council in Milltown, where his two eldest daughters are third-generation students. He also actively participates in the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and its Knight of Columbus Council.
Keefe Law Firm Associate John E. Gregory Jr. also has a strong footing in New Brunswick. John Gregory’s relationship with New Brunswick started in 1991 when he began as a student at Rutgers, The State University. John was awarded a Bachelor of Science in 1996 as a result of those efforts. Following his undergraduate studies John continued with his Rutgers education pursuing a law degree from Rutgers School of Law – Newark which he was awarded in 2000. While a student at Rutgers in New Brunswick John developed many community ties that continue through today. He was actively involved in the arts and music community in New Brunswick and still enjoys the creative spirit of the city and aims to rekindle that relationship with the opening of the new office.
