How IVC Filters Can Cause Sudden Death

We explain the dangers of IVC filters.

Thousands of Americans at risk for blood clots have been implanted with inferior vena cava filters (IVC) filters. These cone-shaped devices are implanted into the inferior vena cava, the largest vein in the body, to break up blood clots before they can reach the heart or lungs. What many people may not know is that these devices are, in some cases, defective. Pieces of the filters can break off, travel through the circulatory system and pierce vital organs. As of late 2015, 27 deaths have been reported with C.R. Bard’s Recovery IVC filters. An additional 300 non-fatal adverse events involving these IVC filters have been reported.

Dozens of lawsuits have been filed against C.R. Bard and Cook Medical over adverse events involving IVC filters. Families and patients want answers. It would seem IVC filters, in some cases, may be more dangerous than the health conditions they are trying to prevent.

The New Jersey personal injury attorneys at Keefe Law Firm have a proven record of helping people harmed by defective medical devices and family members who have lost loved ones.
