Paul A. DiGiorgio announced that he has reached a $286,240 settlement on behalf of a class of workers who performed recovery work after Superstorm Sandy, for companies under contract with the State of New Jersey.

The federal action alleged that AshBritt Inc. and Bil-Jim Construction Company, Inc. failed to ensure that all workers were paid the higher “Prevailing Wages” required by the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act. The project involved the removal of dry debris, on the barrier island between Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, in and around the eastern end of the Mantoloking Bridge, during late 2012 and early 2013.

The settlement will result in the payment of additional wages to the workers equal to over $8.00 an hour that they worked on the project. More than 100 workers are eligible to participate in the settlement, and the average worker’s recovery will be over $1,200.00.

The Hon. Tonianne Bongivanni, U.S.M.J., granted Final Approval of the settlement during a Fairness Hearing in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, in Trenton.
